Jesus healed them all (part 8): the healing of the woman with the issue of blood

Matthew 9:20-22 (NIV)
20Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed." 22Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment.

Luke 8:42-48 (NIV)
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. 44She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. 45"Who touched me?" Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you." 46But Jesus said, "Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me." 47Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48Then he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace."

Mark 5:25-35
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed." 29Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. 30At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?" 31"You see the people crowding against you," his disciples answered, "and yet you can ask, 'Who touched me?' " 32But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."
  1. God can fix the body as well as recreate the human spirit and bring renewal to the the soul. God can heal ANYTHING.
  2. We need to ask in faith: we have not because we ask not.
  3. We see here that sickness robbed the woman of all her money. She spent all she had.
  4. Doctors do help us get better, but our faith is not in doctors. We can go to the doctor but believe God for healing. We never take our eyes off God and onto doctors. We fix our eyes (even in other areas of our lives like finance) on God alone, and not on man to provide or heal, or deals/medicines to provide or heal. We thank God for doctors, but God is our healer.
  5. 2 Chronicles 16:12-13 - Asaph sought help only from the doctors for the disease in his feet; he did not put his trust in God. He died as a result
  6. There are natural remedies that work for our bodies. Paul told Timothy to take a little wine.
  7. Hezekiah was actually supposed to die from his sickness, but he repented and turned to the Lord. The Lord heard his cry and had mercy on him. Isaiah who earlier prophesied his death, heard from the Lord again about using a poultice to apply to the boil, and he recovered. (Isaiah 38)
  8. The bible teaches against preaching diets. (1 Timothy 4:1-4) These diets could be personal in that the Holy Spirit shows us what is good for our individual body systems. People should be led by the Holy Spirit, and not focus on the diet or exercise regiment or follow someone. Still, God does give us wisdom regarding what to eat and what not to. These should not become our idols.
  9. We don't believe there is anything terminal or incurable as there is nothing impossible for our God.
  10. The woman pressed through and took her healing. In Mark 11;23-24, the word receive is akin to take. Faith is like the hand that receives or takes for ourselves.
  11. The woman drew upon the healing anointing.
  12. Faith told her ahead of time what she will receive.
  13. The healing anointing saturated the clothes that Jesus wore, but it was not the power alone that healed. The purposeful touch of faith took the power and Jesus felt the power leaving Him.
  14. Jesus emphasised that it was her faith that healed her, as her faith drew out the power of God. It is FAITH that receives or takes the healing anointing.
  15. If her faith made her whole, my faith can make me whole.
