Jesus healed them all (part 9): the healing of the two blind men

Matthew 9:27-31 (New Living Translation)
27 After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on us!” 28 They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?” “Yes, Lord,” they told him, “we do.” 29 Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.” 30 Then their eyes were opened, and they could see! Jesus sternly warned them, “Don’t tell anyone about this.” 31 But instead, they went out and spread his fame all over the region.
  1. Our faith is based on the Word of God, not on anything we or others experience or say.
  2. "Son of David" is a term that identifies Jesus as the One who should come, and recognises that He is the fulfillment of the prophecies. It is a term which demonstrates their faith.
  3. Matthew 22:41-42 --> Then, surrounded by the Pharisees, Jesus asked them a question: “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” They replied, “He is the son of David." The term also means Messiah (the Saviour or deliverer) or Christ (The Anointed One).
  4. What do we believe? That it is impossible or possible for us to be healed? We must believe what the Word of God says.
  5. Some of us indulge in self-pity and think that we don't deserve what we are suffering. The bible tells us that the wages of sin is death, and all have sinned. So we deserve death, yet God is rich in mercy and grace and reaches down to us to save us. We need mercy because we do wrong. Because of His mercy, we don't reap all that we sow. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, we can come to Him and receive His rich mercy.
  6. Philippians 2:25-29 --> 25 Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need; 26 since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. 27 For indeed he was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore I sent him the more eagerly, that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful. 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in esteem;
    In healing a person, God is not only showing mercy to that individual but all around him - his family and friends.
  7. Faith is persistent. Faith won't quit or give up.
  8. The two blind men took the initiative. Many of the individuals in these 19 cases presented in the gospel were determined to get healing. They were not deterred. They broke the roof, pushed through a crowd to touch His garment, shouted to get Jesus' attention, fell before Him in humility...
  9. Not all are saved, but it is God's will for all to be saved. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 --> 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
  10. Not all are healed but it is God's will for all to be healed. Jesus took stripes upon His back for our healing. (1 Peter 2:24)
  11. Jesus said: Because of YOUR FAITH. Another translation says: ACCORDING TO YOUR FAITH. Another says: YOUR REWARD WILL BE EQUAL TO YOUR FAITH.
  12. The blind men had faith and were instantly healed when Jesus touched their eyes. In the same way, we can receive our healing when we have faith.
