hp note 20 (RM - happy child, happy house)

Proverbs 23:13-14
Submission needs to be learnt so that we can submit to God.

Proverbs 22:15
Rod drives foolishness

Proverbs 13:24
Ephesians 6:4
The responsibility of discipline lies first with the father.
A disobedient child can RULE the house and influence its atmosphere.

1. Be clear in instructions, results and reasons - Bad things happen to people who disobey.

2. Be firm. Get attention. Volume does not mean authority. The goal is not to spank or punish but obedience.

3. Be consistent. Keep guidelines, word and method.

4. Be convicting, not condemning. Say it specifically, repeatedly, differently.

5. Be chastening - correcting, not chastising - punishing. Give correction, not embarrassment. Don't shame. Shame does not produce righteousness. Give covering.

6. Be compassionate - hold, hug and heal them.

7. Release forgiveness. Lead them to ask God for forgiveness. Reaffirm love.
